I am a retired accountant, currently living in Lake Norman (Cornelius), North Carolina. I've been living in Wellington, Florida for the past two years. I moved to Laurelton in 1961 from Inwood, Manhattan. I have lost contact with most of my friends from my Laurelton years and it would be nice to reconnect. Every summer the "Center" which was located inside PS 176 on the first floor housed all of us and every week day we played ping pong, pool, kickball, basketball, etc. Many great summers took place there during the day and then in the "cement" park after the Center closed at p.m. I took my two boys (12 and 14) there in the summer of 2005 to show them the three houses I lived in, the schools I went to, and to share my memories of growing up there. We didn't lock the doors on our homes during the 1950s. All the kids would play games in the street till the lights came on: I Declare War, Scully, Ringo Levio, Ghost.

I attended PS 156 and JHS 59, and I graduated from AJHS in 1962. I went to PS 156, JHS 59 and Springfield Gardens HS grad 1969. One lives in Mount Kisco NY and the other lives in Philly PA. It had more of a Long Island "feel." I'm currently living in Princeton, NJ. Life revolved around school, the schoolyard, the LJC, little league and later hanging out on Merrick Road at such establishments as Carmine's Pizza. I loved my childhood and will never forget all my friends who lived there and who I grew up with. It's nice to see I'm not the only one with pangs of nostalgia about Laurelton. I have fond memories of Laurelton, riding bicycles, having hoola hoop contests, playing hop scotch. Does anyone remember other teachers Angela Cinque, Martin Groffman, Arthur Bryton, Martin Hohauser, and Mr. Thank you for the photos, for the memories and for setting up this website. The boys had endless games of catch and stoop ball.

My family moved to Eastchester in 1958, so I missed going to Jackson or Far Rockaway. , Woolworth's, Bert & Dave's, the Depot, Library, and so many other places and things, I'm struck by how much this place was so important to us because we spent our childhoods there. I lived in Laurelton until the 9th grade and then moved to Rockville Centre. I remember House of Change, Laurelton Movies, The Riveria Italian Restarant, The Bagel Store, The Greasy Spoon Dinner, Sherry's Bakery (I worked there.) So many good memories of my childhood.
