About me: I am a descendant of Elizabeth (Eliza) Morton who was born on 15 June 1841 in Ballymahon, County Longford, Ireland.
Elizabeth was the daughter of Thomas Morton 1815-1881 and Mary Fawcett 1813-1875. Elizabeth emigrated to New Zealand and married Robert Searight 1841-1873 and had two children.
Robert died in tragic circumstances (tree fell on him) and Elizabeth remarried to Moore Ellis Mawhinney.
Sometimes it takes a cast of thousands to help find ones family history and other times it takes one person to come forward with information that changes everything. We have found my grandfathers paternal line through YDNA testing a Mc Naught male.
He is the grandson of James Gordon Mc Naught 1866-1935 who married Ada Mary Delves 1869-1965. I am hoping that autosomal DNA will further help refine which of the 5 sons it was.
This blog is designed to capture all records available from anyone who can trace their ancestry to the Morton families born in County Longford.
In order to do this I need your ancestors birth, marriage and death information and any other research that you or a researcher has undertaken into those families.
